Type Locality and Naming

Along the Toxumbet Depression, Nuratau Mountains. I.M. Abdazimova, 1998 (165, p.146) used the name proposed by G.V. Taraborin (1963) for the Toxumbet Mountains. Stratotype - Along wells drilled in the Toxumbet Depression. Coastal-marine formations.

Synonym: Toxumbetskaya Suite, Тохумбетская св.


Lithology and Thickness

Upper part - gray, variegated clays, siltstone (aleurolites) with layers of sandstones and sandy coquina.

Lower part - red, yellow, cross-bedded sandstones, sands, gravelites, conglomerates

Thickness 37-68m.


Lithology Pattern: 
Coarse-grained sandstone


Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

Lies transgressively on the Paleozoic and with erosion on the Kendyktyube Fm

Upper contact

It is overlain with erosion by the Karasagyr Fm.

Regional extent

Southwestern end of the South Nuratau Range (foothills of the Aktau, Karatau, Kokcha Mountains, Chettyk village area, etc.)

The suite contains marine bivalve mollusks - Inoceramus ex gr. apicalis Woods., Megatrigonia syrdariensis Arkh., M. turkestanensis Arkh., foraminifers Ammomarginulina aulatensis Arap., A. sixtelae Arap., Gaudryinella pseudoasiatica N. Byk., Pseudoclavulina kasarinovi Arap. et Suleim.


Age 

Belongs to the upper Turonian - Coniacian. Used in the legend of the Kyzylkum-Nurata series for geological maps of the 1:200000 scale.
